A Product Design challenge case study

INTRODUCTION

I was given a design challenge to help the resident of a community solve the problem of renting/borrow items from people near them, with either a mobile app( not more than 5 screens) or web(Nothing more than 2 screens).

BRAINSTORMING PHASE

After reading the challenge I began brainstorming possible solutions to this problem, I came up with two(2) different solutions to this problem which are

  1. A community platform where the resident would be able to list/rent and borrow items at the same time

2. A website where the resident lists all the items needed to know…

MEANING

Heuristics evaluation is the process by which designers use the rule of thumb to carry out the USABILITY of the user interface in different user journey and pain point.

PRINCIPLES

  1. Visibility of system status
  2. Match between system and the real world
  3. User control and freedom
  4. Consistency and standard
  5. Error prevention
  6. Recognition rather than recall
  7. Flexibility and efficiency of use
  8. Aesthetics and minimalist design
  9. Help user recognize, diagnose and recover from the problem
  10. Help and documentation

HOW TO CONDUCT HEURISTIC EVALUATION

  1. Testing some particular user flow of the product or testing the entire product, the goal is to know what and why we are testing the product…

I read a book by Jeff Gothelf titled “LEAN UX” which I find very helpful as a UX designer, the author outlined some of the principles of creating a product in a collaborative way with a cross-functional team based on what the user what.

WHAT IS LEAN UX?

Lean UX, according to Jeff Gothelf “ is the practice of bringing the nature of a product to light faster, in a collaborative, cross-functional way that reduces the emphasis on thorough documentation while increasing the focus on building a shared understanding of the product experienced being designed.

lean UX breaks the barrier of documentation or big…

A food company just reached out to me and told me that they would want to allow their user to be able to order food online with the aid of an application. I am going to walk you through the steps I used to solve this problem through design thinking.

EMPATHY STAGE

The first thing I did was to take a brief of the stakeholder(the food company), this part allowed me to understand what is the company’s goal, which was to allow the…

Ux/Ui are words commonly used every time and most people do not know the difference between the two terms.

User experience (UX) is the interaction and experience users have with a company’s products and services. According to Don Norman who is known as the father of modern-day, he described UX as ”User experience’ encompasses all aspects of the end-users interaction with the company, its services, and its products.” UX evolved as a result of improvements to UI.

UX designers are primarily concerned with how the product feels. …
